500 Carat Diamond Found in South Africa

The diamond, could be among the 20 highest quality gemstones in the world
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA .- Petra Diamonds Ltd. said a diamond the size of a hen’s egg was found at the Cullinan mine in South Africa.

The diamond, which could be among the 20 highest quality gemstones in the world, was discovered last Thursday at the mine located northeast of Pretoria, South Africa.

Johan Dippenaar, CEO of the company said Tuesday in a statement that the 507.55-carat diamond was”exceptional color and clarity.”

Not yet rated diamond, which weighs over 100 grams, to establish its value.

The mine also produced the largest diamond ever found, the Cullinan at 3,106 carats in the rough. The carved stone is among the Crown Jewels of Britain.
